Silk Assassin by MJWilliam Silk Assassin by MJWilliam
A commissioned piece. This was a ton of fun, because it really let me indulge my love of all things Asian, in particular Japanese lifestyle and culture. The central figure is loosely based on Devon Aokiís character in Sin City.

Some closeups here: [link]

Some detail shots to follow. Oil on illustration board, 14x17".

I love how you captured the texture of the kimono, and the image seems almost split between the red and pink screen on the right and the blue and green garden on the left. It gives an impression of standing on the threshold between two worlds.

Gorgeous! The background is beautifully done and I love the lush, vivid colors in her kimono. Miho was my favorite character from Sin City, it really looks a lot like her.

I too have a love of things Asian, in particular the architecture- japanese temple bells also fascinate me; there is one across from the capitol building where I originally come from- a gift from Japan in 1963 when the state sent over emergency food supplies after a terrible storm in the Yamanishi prefecture.. there is something about the sound of a temple bell- if you have ever studied Buddhism, there is some mention of AUM, the universal sound current..

At any rate your work is above par as usual.. fascinating subject matter, vivid almost luminous colors- which is markedly different than your black and white sketches, although the quality of your drawings cannot be faulted..

Thanks. :thanks: It took about two months with all the preliminary work (sketching, color studies, etc.), but the painting itself took about three weeks. That's actually an all-time record for me, I'm usually much slower. :)

Thanks...I guess I am measuring success by the numbers,I see all them watchers you have and favorites and pageviews, and mine is quite lowly comparetively..but I certainly see why I think your work is brilliant.

Yeah, lots of people put too much importance on favorites and watches but they really don't mean anything. If one person comments on my work of faves it, that already makes me happy.
