Artisans: Dressmaker by MJWilliam Artisans: Dressmaker by MJWilliam
As a kid, I watched tons of Bollywood movies, had about 20 Indian pen pals, and went to a carnival once dressed in a sari. To this day I hold a warm spot in my heart for India's amazing, rich culture, and this drawing was a lot of fun to make for me. :D

I should mention that I tried something different with the color scheme here. India is usually portrayed in very bright, clean colors, and I tried to show it from a somewhat different visual perspective. :)

The background is referenced from the famous Ajanta Caves frescoes. These caves are 30 rock-cut cave monuments in Maharashtra, India, created during the 1st century BCE, and 5th century AD, and contain paintings and sculptures considered to be some of the earliest masterpieces of both Buddhist art and world visual art.

Thanks. Yes I will definitely not change the picture,...it is so beautiful. I am still working on the website, it is still under construction.

The link is : www.zodiacpundit.com

It will have a section on Indian culture, where I am thinking of using it.

I just wanted to have a prior permission from you.

Thanks,

By altering I meant cutting off the watermark. Sometimes people do that if I don't tell them beforehand. You can resize it if you have to.

Also, if you could, give the credit to the photographer *RTrib. The face is based on one of his photos.

Thanks for asking, and I'm glad you like the picture! :)

You're welcome! I was actually supposed to be in New Delhi right now, but my travel companion couldn't pull the $$$ together in time so maybe next year. I am so looking forward to taking my camera there. :excited:

I can imagine! Be ready for some squalor alongside beauty, I have a friend who lived there for a year, and he says it's one of the saddest places he's ever been to, despite its beauty.

BTW, you'll love this artist, she does a lot of amazing Indian-themed work: [link]

Cheers! :D

Hey! Glad to see yet another of your "Artisan" pieces. This one looks great, and I think your choice of an Indian woman for your dressmaker is unexpected, but rather appropriate.

I have to admit I was surprised at the colour scheme at first, until I realized that rich colours do not necessarily equal warm colours - I've seen some really deep blues showing up in South Asian fabrics, so...yeah.

Anyway, great job with this!
