The background is referenced from the 12th century wooden carvings at the Hylestad stave church (Norway), depicting scenes from The Legend Of Sigurd (Siegfried) from the Edda (collection of Norse mythological poems). Left panel shows Dwarf Regin the smith (Sigurd’s foster father) forging a sword. Right panel shows Sigurd killing the dragon Fafnir.
